There are a lot of restaurants on Ambergris Caye so when time is limited you want to make sure you dine at the best. It is worth noting that prices on Ambergris Caye are not cheap so fine dining can come at a price. Here are my picks for the best restaurants on Ambergris Caye.
Caramba! Restaurant
While this might not be your beachfront dining experience, the food is worth getting off the sand and heading to the main drag in town. Often packed and filled with a lively ambiance, the food here is rather basic but incredibly tasty. Not to mention they have the best conch fritters on the island.
Elvi’s Kitchen
Put me on an island where the seafood is fresh and you better Belize I’m going to be ordering fish tacos. When I found out that Elvi’s Kitchen had a whole section of tacos, it was a must-go on my list. I ordered the Belizean tacos with fish which ended up being some of the most unique style fish tacos I’ve ever had. They were served in a pita pocket type of shell which was so yummy. Elvi’s coconut curry dish is also a great choice as is anything on the menu. They also have a menu just for vegetarians!
Blue Water Grill
Maybe it’s the fact that they have a giant light-up sign that says “I ♥ Belize” that makes me love this restaurant but it is the incredible and innovative dishes that truly makes Blue Water Grill a winner in my book. With our large group, we were able to sample several dishes. The yellowfin tuna is sensational and I strongly suggest ordering whatever special they have that day. Also, on Thursdays only they serve sushi – which can be rather hard to come by in San Pedro!
Palapa Bar & Grill
Amazing fish tacos. The ceviche is also incredible too. Come here for lunch and then jump in the water, float on an inner tube while the lower buckets of ice cold beer down to you. Make your mark and sign your name on the walls, the ceiling, the floor, the table – you pick. Just ask for a sharpie!
Rojo Beach Bar & Lounge
Located on the north side of the island, this is the perfect place to stop on your way home from Secret Beach for happy hour and a dip in the infinity pool. Their food is amazing and their pizza is to die for. This is a must-go and worth the trek outside of town.
Aji Tapa Lounge & Restaurant
One of the best dinners we had on the island and walking distance (albeit a little far) from our resort Coco Beach. Spanish-style tapas. Be sure to try Gambas al Ajillo – shrimp sautéed in olive oil, garlic and chillies. They are also known for their paella which does not disappoint.
