I am obsessed with my iPhone, which is why when it was stolen in Munich at Oktoberfest, I went above and beyond to prevent theft against my phone in the future. With that said, I am always on the lookout for new nifty travel apps to make my days on the road a bit easier. Here are my favorite travel apps for 2015. Be sure to have these apps before your next trip!
Trover
This app is a new find for me and I’m kind of hooked. Trover like Instagram but almost better (do I dare say that?!?!). With Trover, you can browse through different places, like users photos, save lists and it also saves all the photos you’ve liked. One thing that I really like about this app that Instagram does not have is that you can say where the photo was taken even if you aren’t still near that location.
Available on iTunes and Google Play
Uber
If you haven’t already heard about Uber yet, consider yourself way behind. According to a recent Forbes article, Uber could be worth $40 billion! Uber connects you with a nearby driver in minutes and takes you to your destination. You don’t need cash, it chargers your card on file. Just request the car, get in and when you arrive at your destination, get out. It’s simple, safe and I use it wherever it’s available. The only thing that can get a little frustrating are the surge fares. When a lot of Uber cars are being requested, the fares go up. Rates vary depending on the service requested and the city you are located in.

TripIt
I love TripIt. Their app has saved me on more than one occasion. For example, I land in Madrid and don’t have an international cellular plan and realize that I don’t have the hotel’s address written down anywhere and I can’t find it in my email. I open my TripIt app and boom, there it is. I hand it to the taxi driver and I’m on my way. TripIt uses all email confirmations and imports them into the app where I then have a nice handy travel itinerary even without WiFi. Also be sure to check out TripIt’s blog!
Available on iTunes and Google Play
Hotel Tonight
The Hotel Tonight app is great for travelers who like to leave their travel plans to the last minute. I did a little comparison between Hotel Tonight and a popular booking site. Hotel rates were about 80% the same between the two but Hotel Tonight did have some hotels with lower rates. As a traveler who likes to check all bases, I’ll still always do a comparison but it seems that Hotel Tonight does offer more deals than other booking sites. Just be 100% sure that all booking information is correct as there is a no-refund policy.

XE Currency
XE Currency offers live proprietary currency rates, charts, and even stores the last updated rates. When traveling abroad, this app always comes in handy. You don’t need a Wifi connection to check currency rates once you have added the currencies to your list which means it’s great on the go without using cellular data. Just make sure to add the currencies you want to convert beforehand. I never travel abroad without this app.
Available on iTunes and Google Play
PackPoint
There are a lot of packing apps out there but the reason that I like PackPoint is the clean interface and ability to specify the type of trip I plan to take. I select my destination, dates of travel, and length of stay which then gives me a breakdown of the weather forecast – quite handy! I’m also able to specify the type of activities I plan on doing, whether I plan on working, taking care of a baby or spending my days at the beach. PackPoint then customizes my packing list based on all the aforementioned criteria. Love it!

Wow. And we used to think that WE knew about travel apps! Thanks! We barely knew any of those.
PS: Nice to meet you! We’re two NYers in NYC and we travel blog and vlog as well…and we’re even considering moving to LA! Totally can relate to your story. We should connect!
Thanks guys! Nice to meet you too! NYC will always hold a special place in my heart and there are few places in the world quite like it. But the one thing California will always have over NYC is the weather haha. I’m sure you guys would love it out here!
Odd that you guys didn’t include any offline map applications. I personally use Pocket Earth (http://pocketearth.com/). Being an avid cyclist, I always use this to find different cycling/hiking paths when I travel.
I didn’t really find any new offline map applications. But nevertheless always good to have. I love hiking so great to know about this app! Thanks for sharing!
You guys forgot to mention Zippr for navigation and travel, which is absolutely free! You can find Address using Zippr!
