My bucket list is by no means small but one of the things at the top has been to take a heclipter tour. So when I discovered that I could take a helicopter tour from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon with Maverick Helicopters, I was sold.
To avoid the summer heat, the tour began bright and early with pick up from my hotel around 7am. We were then taken to Maverick’s private terminal where we would prepare for take-off. After a brief safety explanation, we were soon airborne and on our way to the Grand Canyon.
For some reason, I had imagined the helicopter flying at what would almost feel like lightening speed but ironically, you feel as if you are barely moving. We flew over Lake Las Vegas, Lake Mead, and the Hoover Dam. Having never been to any of these popular attractions, it was fascinating to experience them for the first time from the sky. We soon descended 3,500 feet into the Grand Canyon in Hualapai Indian Territory with the helicopter landing just 300 feet above the Colorado River. Picnic tables were already set up awaiting our arrival seeing as this particular landing area was Maverick’s very own private spot.
And, of course, what makes me a happy girl, champagne! Once again we were in the air and flying over sights like the Bowl of Fire and then finally zooming over the Las Vegas Strip. It was an incredible experience and all of the staff were very professional and informative. Be sure to put the Wind Dancer Tour with Maverick Helicopters on your list when visiting Las Vegas!
Thank you to Maverick Helicopters for inviting me on this once in a lifetime experience. While my helicopter tour was provided complimentary, my opinion is always my own.
