Located in the Santa Ynez Valley is a tiny little wine country town called Los Olivos. A couple of my girlfriends and I did a short day trip up to Santa Barbara’s wine country. The town dates back to the 1860s, when the stagecoach route began to pass through.
Los Olivos is the epitome of laid-back. Locals post up on wooden porches and giant chairs watching life slowly pass. Victorian homes line the main road and the countryside is a beautiful medley of horse trails, ranches, orchards, and lavender farms. But we are here to wine taste! So let’s get to it.
Seeing as this was a rather spur of the moment trip, we found ourselves on the main road in search of the perfect place to enjoy the outside and do some wine tasting. We decided on Saarloos & Sons – partially due to the fact that you can choose to pair your wine with cupcakes! Yes, please!
The tasting room has a beautiful outdoor patio where you cans it in giant wooden chairs while sipping wine and eating cupcakes.
Each wine is paired with a different cupcake. The cupcakes served are not part of the winery but rather a separate company called Enjoy Cupcakes who sets up shop inside the Sarloos & Son’s tasting room.
First you purchase your cupcakes and then you head over to the bar where they will pair the wines based on the cupcakes that you’ve ordered. There are six wines in the flight to go with the six mini cupcakes. You definitely do not need to purchase a flight of cupcakes per person. Share! The wine on the other hand… well, naturally get your own. It’s wine!
I strongly recommend stopping in Sarloos & Sons. I thought the wine was exceptional. All you need is some good weather and great friends.
